How FoodieTrip Began
FoodieTrip was born from the journey that our CEO, Matan Magril, took to Vietnam. Struggling to find truly authentic cuisine in Ho Chi Minh City, Matan decided to take a motorcycle-based food tour exploring the city’s best-hidden culinary treasures. The tour awakened Matan’s love for Vietnamese cuisine and culture and allowed him to connect with his local guides in a way that no restaurant could. When he returned home, FoodieTrip was born as a collaboration between Matan his close friend, Vladimir Borisov, both of whom sought to create a way to help other adventurous foodies enjoy the same type of authentic experience.

Who are Foodies?
Foodies are people who have an ardent or refined interest in food and beverages. A foodie seeks new food experiences as a hobby rather than simply eating out of convenience or hunger. And they love to explore authentic local cuisine while travelling.
Who are the Guides?
Foodie Guides are independent people who create unique culinary experiences to share with travelers from all around the world. Anyone with unique knowledge of food and a passion for their local cuisine can earn money offering a trip as a Foodie Guide. You might know the best food places in your city and want to show up them to travelers, or you might love cooking and want to prepare authentic dishes at your home and share them with foreign travelers.
Foodie Guides are carefully verified by FoodieTrip to ensure high quality and safety.
Foodie Guides are food-obsessed local tastemakers who know the hidden culinary hotspots of their city. Whether it’s beverage tasting in a local speakeasy or a sizzling street-food crawl, they know that when they offer travelers food, they are telling the story of what they love.

How to choose a tour
We offer tours to different countries and cities. Go to the tours search page and choose the kind of tour that you are interested in. You can use filters such as thematic tours, dates, and cost.
Go to the tour page and read descriptions, reviews, and watch the video. If you like the tour, you can book it.
What is a private tour?
Usually guides offer tours designed for a certain number of people and when booking a tour you should be prepared that there will also be other travelers on the tour with you. If you want a tour just for yourself or your group, you can choose a private tour. As a rule, private tours are more expensive than regular ones. You will see a separate price for the private tour before booking confirmation.
How can I book a tour?
If you want book a tour first you need send a request for it and receive a confirmation from the guide that the tour is available for the time that you have chosen. To ensure this, please select your desired date and times on the tour page and send a request. As soon as the guide answers, we will send you an email. If you have questions about the tour, you will be able to discuss it with the guide by messaging them on FoodieTrip. After all your questions are answered, the guide will confirm your request and you will be able to book and pay for your tour. You can use any credit card for payment.
How does FoodieTrip guarantee that the tour will actually happen?
When a traveler pays for their tour, we do not transfer money directly to the guide. We wait for 48 hours after the start of the tour to make sure that the service has been rendered and no complaints were received from the traveler. Only in this case we will transfer payment to the guide. In addition, we block the accounts of all guides who have been caught providing shoddy service.
How can I ask a question about tour?
You can communicate with any of our guides using inbox messaging on FoodieTrip. To start asking questions about a particular tour you need to send a request for it. We do not recommend communicating with guides and booking a tour outside the website because we will not be able to help you in case something happens.
When will the guide receive payment for the tour?
We want to be sure that the guide provides you with good service, so we do not transfer money for tours to the guides immediately after payment. After you pay for the tour, we freeze the payment and keep it for 48 hours after the tour has started. If during this time you complain about bad service or problems, we freeze payment until the issue is resolved.
What will happen to the payment if the guide cancels a paid tour?
We make our best not to allow tour cancellation. However, we do understand that there are the situations when the guide has to cancel a tour. If it happens, we will refund you 100% of the payment for the tour, including the service fee. Alternatively, we can refund 120% of the payment to your FoodieTrip account and you will be able to spend it to book another food tour.
What will happen to the payment if the traveler cancels a tour after payment?
Ideally, the traveler does not cancel the tour after payment because the guide has to plan the tour and possibly refuse other requests from travelers who wanted the same tour. However, we understand that there could be situations when the traveler might have to cancel a tour, so we allow for rare tour cancellations.
If the traveler cancels the tour a week before the tour starts, we will refund the total cost, excluding the service fee. If they cancel less than a week but more than 48 hours before the tour starts, we will refund 50% of the tour cost, excluding the service fee. If they cancel less than 48 hours before the tour starts, we will unfortunately not be able to refund the payment for the tour.
I received a 120% refund for a canceled tour, how can I spend it?
If you received a 120% refund for a tour that you booked which was later canceled by the guide, you can spend your refund to book a new tour on FoodieTrip. Now you can afford to choose a tour that is even more expensive. Please note that the money can be used for only 1 tour and can’t be divided up to pay for separate ones.
BEING A GUIDE
Who can be a Guide?
You can become a guide as long as you love food and know interesting places to try delicious examples of your local cuisine. It is not necessary to be a professional tour guide - it is enough to love delicious food, be sociable and want to share your experiences with others.
Starting your food tours
To start off as a culinary guide, please consider what food tour you could offer to travelers. Perhaps it will be an unusual dinner with various local dishes, or a 3 hour walk to several different restaurants. Or maybe you know how to cook, have a big house, and are ready to invite travelers over for dinner.
How to create a tour
So you are ready to create your first food tour. Congratulations! The first thing you should note is this: only users who have confirmed their email addresses can start creating tours. Once you confirm it, you can continue.
Come up with a name for your tour. We recommend using an attractive name that immediately tells people something about what they will be eating.
Tell us about your tour. In a few sentences, describe what you have to offer to travelers and why your tour could be the best choice for them.
Detailed tour description
When you describe your tour, make sure you use beautiful, alluring pictures of delicious food that travelers can try if they go on your tour. For each photo, add a colorful description. It’s best to use 3-5 images with a short description for each to describe your tour.
Choose tags which fit your tour. You cannot choose more than 5 tags. Tags are used so that travelers can easily find the perfect tour for them.
When you select your main photo, make sure that it reflects your tour in the most favorable light. It is good if the photo depicts delicious, beautiful, unusual food. Photos must be high-quality. Items should not be cut off.
The title photo is a very important element of the tour because it will be displayed as the first picture of the tour in the search. The better the image is, the faster the traveler clicks on it
Additional tour photos
Additional photos are required to show travelers that you really can offer them an interesting tour that will be a pleasant experience. Take the time to add 3-5 nice photos in addition to the main one.
If you have a video that describes your tour, that’s ideal! Be sure to add it to the description. A video will help to convey the atmosphere better. If you currently don’t have a video, don’t worry. You can add it later.
We have prepared a form so you can write a text message which the traveler will receive after the tour is booked and paid for. In this message, we recommend that you give some information that will be important for the traveler, such as the following:
- Venue and time that the tour meets
- How to get to the meeting
- Your contact information if the traveler cannot find the place
- What attire is best for the tour
- What to bring
- Other details that may be important that the traveler should know
You can change this message as often as you need.
How to choose your tour’s schedule
With FoodieTrip you can work when you want. When creating a tour, specify how often you are willing to accept reservations. This information will be shown on the tour page when the traveler wants to send a request for a reservation. We offer a choice of three options:
- Always available - your calendar is always open to receive requests for a tour booking.
- Sometimes available - you can mark when you are ready for booking and when you are not. Select this option if you are offering a seasonal tour, or if you don’t plan to conduct tours for an extended period of time.
- Available on certain days - you can mark certain days when you are ready to conduct tours. For example, you may be available only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
What tour price should I indicate?
When you indicate the price, it is very important to specify what is included and what is not included. The traveler should understand what additional costs to expect. You should not underestimate the cost of the tour, since this can lead to bad travelling experiences, bad reviews, and reductions in your rankings.
What the tour includes and what it does not
It is very important that the traveler clearly understands what is included in the tour price and that there are no unexpected hidden costs.
List the options that are included in the tour price, as well as a list of optional or mandatory extras which are not included. We recommend that you include in the tour cost as many of the possible costs as you can that will be necessary for the traveler to have a comfortable stay. For example:
- The cost of all meals which you write about in the description of your tour
- The cost of drinks which will be available during the tour
- The fares during the tour
- Admission to locations, if any
- Other extras which may require payment, and without which the travelers will not be able to fully enjoy your tour
You cannot include optional extras in the cost of the tour, such as:
- The cost of souvenirs
- The cost of tasting kits that are available
- Extra food or beverages that have not been announced in the tour description
A detailed description of the options that are included and not included in the tour price means you’ll have satisfied travelers, good reviews and high rankings on FoodieTrip.
If a traveler bought your tour, they should not bear any additional obligatory costs during the tour. If the tour involves any fares, they should be included in the tour price. The Guide has two options for this:
1. Include the cost of travel in the tour price and mark this in the checkbox when creating the tour. In this case, the fare on the page when booking the tour will be 0.
2. State the fare separately - for this, the guide sets the fare for each traveler. In this case, when booking the tour the traveler will see the fare separately.
What is a private tour?
If you offer a tour that is open for anyone to join, you can also offer the option of a private tour. This means that the traveler or group can book a private tour and you will provide it just for them. As a rule, private tours are more expensive than regular ones. You can indicate a separate price for a private tour in your tour’s settings.
Booking and confirmation
When the traveler books a tour, you get an email about it and are able to answer if you are ready to give a tour during the selected time. If you have any questions, you can discuss them with the traveler in the FoodieTrip messaging function before confirming the booking. Once everything has been resolved, confirm the booking and the traveler will be able to pay for the tour.
After the traveler pays for the tour, we highly recommend not canceling it. It affects your reputation, rating, and your Super Guide status. More details about the cancellation policy can be found here.
PAYMENT & PAYOUT (for guides)
We want to be sure that all guides provide good services, so we do not transfer payment for tours to the guide at once after receiving it. After the traveler pays for the tour, we freeze the payment and hold it for 48 hours after the tour starts. If during this time the traveler complains about bad service or other problems we will freeze payment until the issues are resolved.
You can choose your payment method in your guide profile settings. You can withdraw money to your bank account or to a Payoneer card. If you do not have a Payoneer card, you can order one here (link).
In payout settings, you can choose from three options:
- To withdraw money automatically when it appears on your FoodieTrip account. If you choose this we will transfer money every time it comes to your account.
- To withdraw money when the sum reaches a particular amount. In this case we will transfer money every time your account balance reaches your set amount.
- To withdraw money manually. In this case we will not make any transfers without you taking action. You will be able to make transfers whenever you want.
What is the commission for withdrawals?
For the time being we use Payoneer to make withdrawals.
FoodieTrip do not take any commissions for withdrawals. Payoneer takes $3 from each withdrawal to your Payoneer card or $3 + 2% commission from each withdrawal to your bank account.
We recommend you to read the terms of transferring money to your bank account to be sure that you choose the most convenient option for you.
In future we are going to add PayPal.
Refund if the tour was canceled by the guide
If you need to cancel a paid tour after accepting it, you can. If it is your first cancellation, there will not be any penalties and we will give the traveler a refund. If it is your second cancellation, we will take a $20 penalty from you and will give the traveler a refund. On your third and further cancellations, we will take 20% of the tour’s price from you. You can read our detailed Cancellation Policy here.
All taxes are the paid by the guides themselves according to their country’s laws. FoodieTrip is not responsible for payment of taxes.
What is a service fee?
The service fee is an extra payment which is calculated based on the tour’s cost. We use service fees for FoodieTrip development and service improvements for both travelers and guides.
Service fee for travelers
The service fee depends on the cost of the booked tour because it is calculated as a percentage of that cost. When you are booking a tour and indicating the number of guests, you will see a subtotal for the tour and service fee. The service fee is taken only when the tour is confirmed by the guide and the service is provided. If the tour is canceled after payment by the guide, the service fee will be refunded. If the tour is canceled after payment by the traveler, the service fee will not be refunded. Please read about it here.
Service fee for guides
The service fee is calculating as a percentage of the sum paid by the traveler. The service fee is taken only when a traveler pays for the tour and the service is provided. If the guide cancels a tour, the service fee will not be refunded according to our refund rules, which may be found here.
REFERRALS & COUPONS
How do referrals and coupons work?
You can invite your Foodie friends to join you on FoodieTrip. For each friend you invite, you will receive a credit of $10 as soon as your friend registers on the site and purchases their first food tour. If the friend you have invited becomes a foodie guide and sells their tour 1 time, you get a coupon for $40.. You can earn up to $50 worth of FoodieTrip credit. If your friends register through the link you provided them, they will also receive $10 off their first tour.
How can I invite my friends to FoodieTrip?

If you’ve checked everything but still cannot use a coupon, write to FoodieTrip support and we will help you
Who are the Super Guides?
A Super Guide is a guide that gives good, popular tours on the FoodieTrip website. There are some very important criteria: the guide does not cancel tours which were already paid for, promptly responds to new requests from travelers (within 24 hours), has a high rating, and has guided more than 30 tours. If you see the Super Guide mark on a guide’s profile, you can be sure that you’ll have a great time.
How can I become a Super Guide?
To become a Super Guide it is necessary to meet the four criteria of quality: not cancelling tours, responding to requests from the travelers within a day, guiding more than 30 tours, and guiding tours that leave travellers happy enough to leave you great reviews.
What benefits do Super Guides get?
Super Guides have a special status at FoodieTrip. If you become a Super Guide, at first you will get a mark on your profile indicating this. The mark sets you apart from other guides and lets travelers know that your tours are popular and worth going on. In addition, we will support and promote you - Super Guides appear first in searches, participate in mailing lists, and are the first to gain access to new features at FoodieTrip.
Can I lose my Super Guide status?
Yes, you can lose Super Guide status if you stop meeting the criteria.
Why are reviews necessary?
We ask everyone who bought a tour to leave an honest review after going on it. Reviews are very important, as they help other travelers to learn more about the tours that they are thinking of going on.
Who can write a review?
A review on a tour can be written by someone who has gone on this tour. This is done to ensure that the reviews are honest and helpful.
Can a Guide edit or delete a review?
The guide cannot delete reviews. FoodieTrip follows reviews and can change or edit them only if the review contains banned content (inappropriate content or language, direct contacts, advertising, etc...) If the guide considers that the review was written unfairly, they may inform FoodieTrip and we will sort out the situation.
TOUR RESERVATION MECHANICS (FOR GUIDES)
How the traveler books a tour
The process of booking a tour on FoodieTrip is not automatic. First, the traveler chooses dates and the number of people who will be going on the tour. This information is included in their request to you. You check your schedule, and if everything is okay, you confirm the traveler’s request (if not, you can discuss the details in the messaging function on FoodieTrip). Payment for the tour only becomes available when you approve the traveler’s initial request. After payment, the traveler receives a confirmation email.
What does it mean if the guide confirms a request?
If the guide confirms a request it means that the guide is available to lead the tour on this date. However, it does not mean that the tour is already booked. After the request is confirmed, the traveler must pay for the tour within 24 hours. Only after payment occurs is the tour considered to be booked.
What will happen to the request if the traveler does not pay within 24 hours?
The request will be canceled and you’ll be free during this period to offer your tour to other travelers.
When is the tour considered to be booked?
The tour is considered to be booked only after the traveler has paid for it. Guides can see this in “Your Reservations”
